What Makes a Hero, a Hero?Maniac McGee will teach us that you don't necessarily need super powers, wealth, or a magical background in order to be a hero. Sometimes, all you need is yourself. Think about what we have discussed in class so far (and will discuss further); what makes someone a "true hero?" What must they do, how must they treat others, and how must they treat themselves?
For this project, you will tell the story of a true tall tale hero. You will include elements of tall tales! |
STORYBOARD PROJECT
The important thing to remember about this project is that you do not need to write an entire story. The format you choose to show your story map is completely up to you, but you don't need to sit down and write an entire story. You do, however, need to make it visually interesting, and include all the elements of a story map:
- Introduction
- Rising Action
- Climax
- Falling Action
- Resolution
Characters, Setting, and a Hero are introduced in the beginning. A conflict is quickly introduced and then the hero begins to resolve it with true hero tasks, using his amazing feats (and intelligence). The story ends with a clear theme, or life lesson. You can
The images you use for characters/settings can be hand drawn, OR photographs.
This project is difficult (but fun), and so it is very important you work on it over the four weeks and consistently review the rubric below in order to get an A for your final grade on Maniac McGee.

- create a poster that reads like a giant comic book page
- make a mini booklet that maps out your story with illustrations
- paste images onto a giant tri fold poster board (think science fair projects)
- create a powerpoint
